Racefab is excited to announce that it has been chosen by the National Aeronautic and
Space Administration, NASA as the constructor of the latest lunar rover platforms. Now Racefab will be applying the same quality design, fabrication, and technology incorporated into their championship winning competition automobiles to create exploration vehicles, which NASA will use on the Orion moon exploration mission. Jeff, physicist and lead engineer for Racefab, woking in conjunction with the NASA lunar rover team, performed the structural analysis that resulted in the final design. These design refinements consider stress loads that will be seen throughout the chassis, while carrying expected payloads, astronauts, and drivetrain. Jeff states. "I have grown up in the world of auto-racing cars, along side my father, Joel. Racefab has designed and constructed over 400 competition automobiles, including notable projects, such as; the Shelby Can-Am spec series, and the CART Driving 101 Indy car series (now known as the Mario Andretti Driving School), This project is very exciting opportunity for our company and we all are proud to be selected by NASA to construct these exploration vehicles, and I know that our lunar exploration vehicles will be just as successful as our competition automobiles." The Lunar Rover utilizes 4130 alloy steel round tubing for its main chassis structure with aluminum paneling providing the only "body work." The vehicle has six suspension/drive modules with twelve wheel-drive, cantilever suspension and twelve coil-over shock assemblies per vehicle. Testing of the Lunar Rover will be performed in terrain, possibly even more hostile than the surface of the moon, the Great American Southwest. |
